Bailout of the UAW

December 11, 2008 18:04 by Lisey

It's funny how some who know me in the real world think I'm a Democrat and very few think I ever agree with Republicans - I don't think any realize I have libertarian leanings.  I just want to say how HAPPY I am that the GOP stood it's ground and didn't cater to the damn UAW.  I hate unions.  Everything I've ever seen about unions in this decade has made me sick to my stomach.  They produce laziness that comes with security from being fired.  They hinder ingenuity and industriousness.  Here's the bottom line on the reason the bailout didn't pass today...

The group came close to agreement, but it stalled over the union's refusal to agree to wage cuts before their current contract expires in 2011. Republicans, in turn, balked at giving the automakers federal aid.

So the stupid UAW wants to keep all benefits and wages the same while in this depression and eat fat off the hog of the taxpayer.  Only when the car makers are doing ok in 2011 will they consider pay changes and they are hoping they can force the companies to pay them MORE not less then.  I'm sickened by this union and hope all 3 claim bankrupcy and get out from under this beast.  Did I mention I hate unions?  I hate the school unions too - those extinguishers of competition and efficiency, but that's another rant

Sharia Law spreading across the world

September 15, 2008 04:23 by Lisey

I admit it.  I'm terrified of Islam and Sharia law.  To me, it's the epitome of what Satan tried to do.  It's all about Force, with no respect for an individual's (especially Women) rights.  It's coming to the western world.

How is it that one religion can take such control of things?  It is because we are so fearful to say no to them?  I believe Islam is an evil mirror of the Gospel.  It has similiar truths (word of wisdom) but removes the agency central to Heavenly Father's plan.  Both men and women have such restrictions on them (men have to pray 5 times a day or risk being beaten, women can be killed for anything - including being raped.)  It is mosiac law twisted.  Cutting off arms and stonings.  Well, welcome to it if you live in Britain now...    Are we so afraid of this religion that we are willing to lose our freedoms and submit to it?  I just can't understand how anyone thinks this is ok.

Islamic law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through county courts or the country's High Court, a part of its Supreme Court system.

Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims.

Politicians and church leaders expressed concerns that this could mark the beginnings of a “parallel legal system” based on sharia for some British Muslims.

Dominic Grieve, the shadow home secretary, said: “If it is true that these tribunals are passing binding decisions in the areas of family and criminal law, I would like to know which courts are enforcing them because I would consider such action unlawful. British law is absolute and must remain so."

Can someone explain how it is that a free country that values human rights, democracy and equality could ever justify Islam and Sharia law in their courts?
